Worshiping Together: A Gift for You

“Worship the Lord with gladness; come into God’s presence with singing.”
(Psalm 100:2)

Yesterday was the final eucharist of the academic year at Trinity. Spring Term classes end today, and next week we begin our first May Term (a calendar shift after years of having J [January] Term).

Our worship included a Sending Litany for members of the Trinity community in transition: our 2021 graduates, M.Div. students who will be heading out on internship this summer, and others who are entering new chapters of their lives. Following the service, we announced student awards for excellence in Biblical scholarship, historical studies, church music, Christian education, leadership, and more.

Next week our worship planners turn to a new project. We will be recording a worship service for use on Trinity Sunday, May 30, 2021. Trinity Sunday is close to our hearts here at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. It feels like a kind of liturgical birthday, and this year we have decided to celebrate by offering a gift to congregations.

During the pandemic, we have noticed a number of synods offering prerecorded sermons or worship services for use in their congregations. These services provided a break for pandemic-weary leaders. They also filled a gap for ministry settings that rely on supply preachers who were no longer able to visit a congregation safely in person.

It’s our turn – and our joy – to meet that need. We will be offering a Service of the Word for Trinity Sunday, with a sermon by Dean Kleinhans. You are welcome to post or to stream the service in its entirety. The sermon will also be available as a separate digital file for those who wish to stream a sermon within the context of their own worship service. Our goal is to have the service and the sermon posted on the new Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University YouTube channel by the end of the first week of May. Since Trinity Sunday falls during Memorial Day Weekend this year, we hope that our providing a worship service for your use may offer you a welcome chance for a break – as well as an opportunity to celebrate the Holy Trinity along with Trinity Lutheran Seminary.

Whether or not you are a Trinity graduate, whether or not you are located in this geographical region of the ELCA, whether or not you are Lutheran, you are invited to view and to use this worship service and sermon. To God be the glory!

The Rev. Kathryn A. Kleinhans, Ph.D.
