It’s hard for me to believe that we’re in our fourth year as TrinityLutheran Seminary at Capital University. We have experienced much change, and we have also seen a lot of growth! This year we’re excited to be able to invite alumni and friends back to campus for Trinity Days – live and in person – on September 23-24.
Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Cynthia Moe-Lobeda, an internationally known Lutheran ethicist who holds a joint appointment at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and Church Divinity School of the Pacific. Here is the theme she has chosen:
Being Church Now: The Call, the Perils, the Promise
Never before has the world so needed the church to be the church. Our moment in time holds perils and potential like no other. These two lectures invite us to explore — with the hope and courage born of faith – what it means to trust and proclaim God’s liberating, healing love for the world in the face of two harrowing perils: climate change that threatens the lives or livelihoods of billions, and the deadly distorting sin of racism. Our orienting touchpoint will be the promise that, while broken by sin, we are first and forever beloved creatures called to embody God’s justice-seeking Earth-honoring love.
What a vision to call us forward!
At Trinity Days in 2018, we dedicated the courtyard outside Gloria Dei Worship Center in honor of Trinity’s founding president, the Rev. Dr. Fred Meuser. This summer, we were able to complete the goal of installing a prayer labyrinth in the Meuser Courtyard. The labyrinth will be dedicated in a special worship service on the Friday of Trinity Days this year, followed by an outdoor picnic lunch (weather permitting).
Another highlight of the event will be a workshop on preaching the Advent texts with Trinity Bible professor the Rev. Dr. Rachel Wrenn.
If you’ve not been to Trinity Days lately, you may not know that we’ve done away with a formal Thursday night banquet in favor of a reception with heavy hors d’ouvres and the opportunity for fellowship while celebrating anniversary classes and taking a look back at Trinity over the years.
